video reference 2 (HOLLOW BLOCKS MAKING at P5250 CAPITAL)

Business sometime fail because the owner had failed to plan and of course nobody plan to fail, that is why planning and feasibility play a very important roll in your road map to a successful hollow blocks business.

Location

Next consideration before doing this business is to consider your location, you should have a very accessible location for customers to buy from you, road access, enough space to park a mini dump truck or elf or canter should there arise a volume of sale. Having your place near the Central Business District is of  good advantage but should not be a reason fro you not to pursue the business. There are ways to market even though you are kilometer away from business areas.

Now that you have your location set up lets move to the next topic.

MARKETING PLAN

“WHO WILL BE MY CUSTOMERS FOR THE HOLLOW BLOCKS THAT I MADE?”

First and foremost put on your business signage. let the community know that you are doing hollow blocks business. Don’t let them get puzzled, don’t let them speculate, because the mere fact that you are making hollow blocks they won’t know what is your purpose, are you going to build your own house or are you going to sell hollow blocks?

Make it clear about your goal, your goal is to do a hollow blocks business. Putting a signage for your business is the initial form of marketing your brand or product.

as the saying goes “ A business with no sign is a sign of no business “ sounds funny but in reality this is true.

okay now, I will share you the marketing strategy that I am doing to keep my business afloat. There are two approached that you should consider to keep your hollow blocks making business rolling. The first one is immediate customer and the second one is long term customer.

What is the difference between the two?

Immediate or short term customers – this are the type of customers that are ready to buy your hollow products anytime, this are the kind of customers who only buy from you once or twice, this are the ones with immediate need like repairing a small portion of the house, building an extension room, any sort of small project that will need immediate supply of your hollow blocks product.

Where can you find this customers, sometimes they just stop by your business doorstep with a tricycle ride ready to buy twenty pieces to fifty pieces of hollow blocks. Sometimes they are in your neighborhood  or your neighbor themselves or in your barangay, this is where this customers are located.

It is really important that you know your neighborhood to take advantage of an immediate sale for you to have an initial rolling of your capital. Go for a walk or go for a bicycle ride explore your neighborhood and community, be friend with your brgy. officials, carpenter, foreman's, architects and engineers, this are the sources of your sales.

Long term customers – this are the type of customer where you can have repeated sales over and over again. This are the big players in your community or in your neighborhood.  Mostly you can find them in Central Business Districts, they have their own big trucks, big businesses, this are the hardware and Lumbers in your areas. This is your big break in surviving the hollow blocks making business.

This are tougher to market, you need to establish trust and relationship with this people in order for them to buy from you. Her are simple effective  approach that you can do to get their attention and eventually start doing business with them.

We know that cement is one of the primary ingredients in doing a hollow blocks right? so here’s what you need to do, explore how many hardware are in your neighborhood. Once you have gathered all of them, start buying your cement raw materials from one of them until you were able to buy from all of them, that is your initial approach. As you business rolls gradually, buy from them in cash at least until the third time and among all your listed hardware pick one which you think is the  most  easily for you to be approached.

Now here is what you need to do, introduce yourself tell them what kind of business you are in, and you would like to propose a good business deal with them…surely they are willing to listen. Most hardware now, they don’t produce their own hollow blocks instead they source it our from small manufacturers like us.

You propose a deal which will be beneficial for both your businesses, the deal will look like this. “ Sir, I would to propose a very good business proposal for you since I am a regular customer of cement in your hardware. I am a small manufacturer of good quality hollow blocks and I would like to partner with you should you allow me to. I would like to bring a sample of my product to you tomorrow or later if you are available, after I have presented it to you then lets talk about business.”

Your goal here is to supply them with your product at the price that  you have agreed upon and in the same manner the hardware in return will supply you with cement, in this case both of you are in a win-win situation, you sold your product they sold their product.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about the fun of doing hollow blocks  making business. Thank you very much.

‘til my next blog. see yah!

HOW TO SET THE SALARY FOR YOUR MANUAL HOLLOW BLOCKS WORKER

The topic that I am going to share with you today is “HOW TO SET THE SALARY FOR YOUR MANUAL HOLLOW BLOCKS  WORKER”. Hollow blocks making business is one of the booming home business in the Philippines, particularly for those entrepreneur who are near quarry areas where the sand resources are sufficient.

My place is about 70 Kilometers from the source of sand quarry resources and yet the price of the hollow blocks product that we are producing is still very competitive, you just need to be hands on to your business to make sure of its success.

So okey, let’s dive in now to our main topic for today. HOW TO SET THE SALARY FOR YOUR MANUAL HOLLOW BLOCKS WORKER?

This is a very important matter to consider in setting up your hollow blocks business because this will be one of key factor in the success of your blocks manufacturing business.

TIP # 1:

The moment that you put your feasibility to stat this kind of business, include the due diligence of finding a hollow blocks worker who has the heart of taking the job seriously.

Why?

Most often when we start a business we always have this fear of failure specially when we have already started the business. We have the tendency to submit to our fear and we will spoon feed everything to our worker just for them not to turn their back from us, and leave us empty handed.

If you are this type of person then I’m telling you to avoid this.

TIP # 2:

Do a proper background check on the worker that you have employed, I will site a scenario that is is base on my experience that I was able to avoid all untoward problems that happened in other hollow blocks making business owner.

Most of the problems of seasoned hollow blocks making workers here in my place is that they were left with so many advance payments from their previous employers that most of them are hopping from one employer to another because they tend to run away from this advance money obligation. Once you have met a type of this applicant to the vacant position that you have in your business be cautious.

I’m not saying that you don’t give them a chance… I will place my take regarding this in the next tip.

 TIP # 3:

How to a deal with an applicant worker with so much unpaid financial advances from previous employer?

Like what I have mentioned earlier do your due diligence and you will know how to handle the situation. Here are few ways to handle the situation. Please don’t reject them right away, that would be so mean for us employers, not unless you are full staff and you don’t have any vacancy for the job.

Talk to them about your policy regarding your offered salary, state your salary policy and cash advance policy. If they agreed then there should be no problem, but put them in your monitoring radar because sooner or later the motive may come out and you will know when to do a safe decision making.

to give you an idea, the per bag rate of accomplished job here in San Carlos Pangasinan ranges from P100.00 to P150.00 per bag of cement depending on the skill that the worker had. I offer my workers P130.00 per bag of cement accomplishment with 80 pcs. size 4 hollow blocks output.

In this way you can do away with some seasoned worker bad habits and give your hollow blocks making business a higher chance of survival.

TIP # 4:

Don’t be afraid if it takes time to find the right worker for the Job.

Why?

Waiting and patience is better than Rushing and Losing business from a wrong person for the Job. Think of your goal, why did you put up the business in the first place? To have profit and to give somebody something for him a source of income to feed his family, this is our Goal.

We build business to complement each other, we build business for us to live as well, like them to have something to feed their families. There is always a good worker out there who is willing to accept your terms and conditions.

BONUS TIP :

As the owner of Concrete hollow blocks business master the recipe of a quality hollow blocks.

Why?

Don’t get off guard when your worker suddenly get sick or worse he left you for a greener opportunity. Most often we leave the handling of the recipe of the mixture of our hollow blocks to our worker thinking that they are the expert in this endeavour.

I am telling you this, if this is your way of thinking then you are discounting your chances of survival. Your responsibility to your business is absolute, you are the  only person who an save your business, knowing the job and its secret is the one of the key to be successful in any type of business.

Knowing every detail of the hollow blocks recipe increase your confidence in your business survival, because anytime you are facing the situation of your worker leaving you, you can always handle the job or train somebody for replacement.

The secret recipe should be kept by you and not by them. Making a quality hollow blocks will help you build your network of customer, your customers are the  ones responsible in giving you business, it’s the quality of your product that will precede the reputation of your business. It should not be your worker who will carry your brand but it’s you the owner of the business.

Workers may come and go but your quality should be maintained and this will maintain your customer as well.

Okey, so that’s it for  today, I hope you learn something from our today’s content. Thank you very much. See you in my next post.

How to make your created hollow blocks Stronger

In this blog series we will discuss about how to make a your created hollow blocks stronger. Making a quality hollow blocks is the secret to a successful hollow blocks making business. Not only in a competitive blocks price but the quality of your hollow blocks will speak for itself will bring you to success in the field of concrete block making business.

Okay let’s start our topic.

The secret behind a strong hollow blocks is the ways it cures. As research shows a concrete in this case let’s include hollow blocks because it is also a concrete product that is why we call it concrete hollow blocs.

On its first day from the time it was taken out of the molder, it can gain a strength of 16%, on the third day it has already gain 40% of its strength, on its seventh day I has gain 65% of its strength, on its fourteenth day it has already gained 90% of its strength and on the twenty eighth days it has gained a 99% of its total strength.

After 28th days its strength will slow down and continue to strengthen until the 120th  days the reason why the engineers uses a maximum of 28 day to design a concrete project. This is really amazing concept , they call it the LLN (law of large numbers) which was originated from the principle introduce by Jacob Bernoulli a Swiss mathematician.

Let’s go back to the topic.

On the first day that the hollow blocks was cast out of the molder, let’s talk about hollow blocks made during summer time…you will notice after an hour it was casted out of the molder, the corner portion will dries up very fast because of the suns heat. The rate of evaporation or bleeding is tremendously fast.

If you don’t know how to handle this, you are in trouble of producing a low quality hollow blocks that will easily break and pulverized, and  this might put your hollow blocks making business into a bad light or let’s say a very negative impression once somebody purchase it from you.

Now to make a good quality concrete hollow blocks stronger, you need to properly water it after it was made. We call it curing, this is the time given to the hollow blocks to get itself properly dried up. Do you know what is happening during the curing time?

Here is what’s happening during the curing process, Ettringite crystals are formed by the reaction between sulfate ions and the aluminate phases in cement. It forms naturally during cement hydration as calcium sulfate is included in the mix materials to control hydration.

Okay lets go back again.

Remember this step is to be use in summer time.

To have a properly cured hollow blocks, on the first day that you notice that the corners of your hollow blocks are turning white this is a sign of very fast evaporation and you need to supplement some moisture to avoid the abrupt drying of the block.

Get a pail of water and a dipper, fill the dipper with small amount of water and sprinkle it slightly so that the impact of the water will not hurt the concrete hollow blocks and to avoid breaking it due to water impact. look at the video for reference. I am sharing this technique based on my experience as a hollow blocks making business entrepreneur.

On the second day, before the worker will start the next batch of production on that day, ask him to water, or water it yourself. Get again a pail of water and a dipper, fill the dipper of water and bathed the  hollow blocks until it is soak and wet, do this in the morning and repeat this  around  4-5pm in the afternoon.

On the third day, repeat the same process as it was instructed on the second day.

On the fourth day, file the hollow blocks in low layers of three hollows blocks per layer, Once everything is filed up in three layers low, get again the bucket and dipper and bathed again the hollows soaked and wet.

On the Fifth day, you can slowly increase the height of the file until it dries up and ready to be sold.

What if you as owner was not able to sold the hollow blocks right away after a week? Then what you have to do is you can water the blocks at least twice a week until you were able to sell it. This will be the process you need to take to make your hollow blocks stronger during the curing stage. Do this process during summer time production.

A different approach of watering will be needed if hollow blocks will be made during the rainy season. As the season suggest , slow evaporation will take place during this time of the year. It follows that the hollow blocks will dries up slowly. As an experience hollow blocks making business owner, a different watering approach will be applied to the produce hollow blocks pieces.

Okay let’s start with the following steps of watering of hollow blocks that are made during the rainy days. The tendency of hollow block making entrepreneur is to stocked their hollow blocks during the rainy season and sell it in the summer time.

Remember this step is to be use in rainy days.

On the first day, that the hollow blocks is taken out of the molder, wait for three days before watering it. This is to avoid water impact that make break the hollow blocks.

On the third day, water the hollow blocks until it is soaked and wet. By this time it can already resist the water impact.

On the fifth day, you can file up the hollow blocks low at least by three layers high.

On the sixth - seventh day onwards, you can slowly increase the filing and wait for the hollow blocks to dry up. Repeat this processes for your hollow blocks making business. How to make your created hollow blocks Stronger

Thank you.

HOW TO MAKE CONCRETE HOLLOW BLOCKS DETAILED

Hollow Bocks making business is a very profitable business in the Philippines that is very good to consider if you are planning to venture in a small business with a very low risk with very minimal capital and high rate of profitability.

In this Blog I would discuss the process as base in my experience as small scale business owner of CHB manufacturing business. The tools and material that you will need in making a concrete hollow blocks are shovel, wheelbarrow ( 3 cu.ft ), bucket (16L) , wooden log for molder stand, 2x2x12 inches wood for tapping, chb molder ,empty cement bag, sand , cement , water… this are the thing that you will need in creating a chb.

THE PROCESS

First step is to collect the amount of sand that you will need, the amount of sand that your will need is 7.5 cubic feet of sand or equivalent to seven and half bag of sand using the empty cement bag as  measuring tool. Transfer the sand to a wheel barrow and bring it to your mixing area. Once you have collected all the necessary amount of sand, Get a 20 kilogram of cement and mix with the 7.5 cubic feet of sand.

Second step will be a very crucial stage in producing a strong and quality hollow blocks. This second step is the mixing of sand and cement. The minimum number of times that you will flip the sand and cement mix is four times, to and pro, side to side , left and right. if you can increase the number of times that you flip the sand and cement mixture the better, the secret of a strong concrete hollow blocks is the proper and evenly mixing of sand and cement. This will give you a good impression and greater chance of success in the hollow blocks making industry.

Third step is watering , you will need an approximate amount of 28 liters to mix with the 20kilogram of cement and 7.5 cu. ft of sand, you don’t need to consume all the 28 liters of water because it will depend on how wet or how dry is your sand is… so you need to slowly pour the  second batch of bucket of water after pouring the first pail of 14 liters. Please refer to the video. Repeat the step 2 process for the proper way of mixing the cement and sand mixture.

You can include in this step the clinch test to determine if you have properly watered and mix the sand and cement mixture.

Get a handful of the mixture and clinch the mixture in your hand, like you’re going to boxed someone…then open your hand, once the mixture stand firm in your hand without eroding then the mixture is ready for molding.

Once you have repeated the second step, we will proceed now to fourth step.

Fourth step is Molding, prepare your hollow blocks molder, make sure its clean , put the log in place, get ready of your 2x2x12 wood for tapping. Now slowly place the molder on top of the log, make sure the base of the molder is properly place on top of the log, the molder base should sit comfortably on top of the wooden log.

Once the molder is sitted properly on top of the log, please watch the video for reference, fill the molder at least three forth filled, then bang the molder slightly twice, to compact the mixture inside the mold, now fully filled the molder and bang again once slightly. Now tap the sand to press it toward the molder, just tap it slightly, enough to flatten it on top of the molder or flatten it in the molder opening.

Fifth step is Ejecting the hollow block mixture out of the molder. Before ejecting the mixture out of the molder, make sure that the drying area is already prepared. You have to take note that the concrete hollow blocks mixture should not be put to direct sunlight nor put in place where it will be drowned in direct rainfall. Once everything is ready then you eject your first manually made hollow blocks. Congratulations! you have your first block for your hollow blocks making business.

Sixth step is Curing, in lay man’s term this is the drying period for the concrete hollow blocks, just to give you an idea how far it will dry in days. On the first day it can gain 16% strength, third day it can gain 40% of its strength, seventh day it gains 65% of its strength, fourteenth day 90% of its strength and on the twenty eighth day it already gains its 99% of its strength.

Basing on this facts, you will know how strong your hollow blocks are. Now here are some things that you will need to do during the curing time:

Sprinkle with water the moment you notice the corners of the hollow blocks are turning white this means the rate of water evaporation is too fast, and this happens during day time, you can notice this around five hours after ejecting the hollow block mixture. as a rule of thumb once it reach 4:30 – 5:30 pm in the afternoon sprinkle water to all your blocks. The next day, water all the blocks fully in the morning before you start making new block. water the block fully around 8-9 a.m then repeat watering fully around 4-5 pm. Do this until the 4th day of curing.

Seventh step is Filing the blocks, on the fifth day you can file the blocks vertically by 3 layers, then you can add another 2 layers as the day moves. This is the full cycle of how to make a hollow blocks.

Repeat this Seventh process everyday as you make your progress in the hollow blocks making business.

I hope you find this article helpful to you and I am looking forward to your success in considering this type of business at the comfort of your homes. Thanks!

HOW TO MAKE P24,000.00 IN THIRTY DAYS DOING HOLLOW BLOCKS MAKING BUSINESS 2023

When speaking of construction of house or commercial building or Industrial buildings, the first thing that comes to our mind are CHB or concrete hollow blocks as we  know it. This material have passed the test of time since the 18th century until now. Let me share with you my journey when I started this kind of business.

It was way back on May 2018 when I decided to stay for good in the Philippines after a long time of stay in Singapore as and Filipino Overseas Worker. I have kept some amount of money to start a business but I don’t have yet a clear idea what kind of business should I start.

I have done some due diligence about business that will not entail so much capital and one that popped in my mind is HOLLOW BLOCKS MAKING BUSINESS. In doing this business you will only new few basic tools to start like shovel, wheelbarrow, pail. For the natural resources or say the ingredients that you will need are Portland cement, sand and water.

The amount of training that you will need if you want to learn it yourself is only about a day or two. Regarding the hollow blocks molder depends on your preference and budget capacity, but in this topic we will be dealing with manual concrete hollow blocks molder.

Okay let’s start with the simple tools that we will need and its usage and the price.

Simple tools to start

SHOVEL – appx P400.00 – P500.00 – you should look for the flat end shovel and not the pointed one. flat shovel best fit the function of mixing the sand during the production process. The shovel will served you from four to six months depending on the quality and amount of hollow blocks order that you will be producing.

WHEELBARROW – P2200.00 – this simple tool will be used to transport the sand from its storage to your HOLLOW BLOCKSMAKING area or production area. Normally it can last for a year or two depending on the volume of your production.

PAIL (16L) – P150.00 – P200.00 - this tool will be your measuring device for water. you can easily find this empty pails from construction where they’re doing house painting. You can even get it for free if you have contacts or friend working in a construction areas.

EMPTY CEMENT BAG  – P 0.00 –this tool will be your measuring tool for your sand ingredients.

OKAY! now that we have mentioned our simple tools let’s go to the natural ingredients that we need to create our concrete hollow products. We will as well mention the price of our resources to give you and idea on the price of each one of block component.

Natural resources needed in making a hollow blocks

SAND (16 cu.m) – P7,500.00 – the price of sand that I place here is the current amount here in Pangasinan. In my experience 16 cubic meter of sand can produce 3200 pieces of size 4 hollow blocks or more.

CEMENT (40Kg) – P220.00 – normally a 40 kilogram of cement can produce 80 pieces of size 4 hollow blocks.

WATER – P0.05 – in my experience I am consuming about 5 cents of water per piece hollow blocks., but the amount will vary depending on the water source that you are using. You can even have it for free if you have rivers that is near your production area. You can as well let a contractor drive a galvanized pipe for a manual pump to do away with using the water from utility services.

Other miscellaneous expense added to the cost of a piece of block

HAULER INCENTIVE – P150.00 per 500 pieces of block – this the amount of incentive that I usually give to the team of hauler of the hardware that I sold my hollow block products.

The basic tools and the raw materials mentioned above are the very things that you need to build a HOLLOW BLOCK MAKING BUSINESS IN THE PHILIPPINES. as I mentioned you can either proceed in doing the business manually or with the use of a machine. But in today’s Blog we will discuss about doing the business manually.

When I start the CHB making business on September of 2018 I only hired two skilled staff in making my blocks. Each staff is producing about 320 pieces of size 4 blocks in a day, that’s using 4 bags of cement , we have a total of 640 pieces of block in a day.

I will not discuss in today’s blog the process of making the blocks, we will discuss that I other time. We will focus more in the computation of how much will be your initial capital and the profit that you can make on your first month of operation.

Now let’s dive in to the costing details.

BASIC TOOLS

shovel –                                P  400.00

Wheelbarrow -                       P 2200.00

Pail -                                      P  150.00

TOTAL =                               P2750.00

RAW MATERIALS

SAND (16 cu.m.) -                P7500.00 (appx 3200 pcs size 4 chb)

CEMENT (40 pcs.) -             P8800.00 ( 40 pcs no. of bags of cement needed to make 3200 pcs blocks)

WATER -                               P160.00   (water consumption for 3200 pcs. of block)

TOTAL =                               P16300.00

LABOR COST

WORKER FEE -                   P120.00 per bag of cement (with 80 pcs output block) * 40 BAG

TOTAL =                               P4800.00

HAULER INCENTIVE

TOTAL INCENTIVE -         P960.00 (obtained by dividing 3200 by 500 block times P150/500)

Having collected all our needed data’s we can now compute for the projected over all expense and profitability of the HOLLOW BLOCKS MAKING BUSINESS that we put to action. let’s group together the items that belong to each other and check our overall costing for capitalization every batch production.

Capitalization

BASIC TOOLS –                 P  2750.00

RAW MATERIALS –            P16300.00

LABOR COST-                    P  4800.00

INCENTIVE -                       P    960.00

TOTAL =                              P24,810.00

Let’s now proceed to compute the price per piece of the hollow blocks and later on lets subtract the amount of our sales from our capitalization.

let’s go!

Capitalization of 1 hollow block

sand –                                  P7500.00/3200   =             P2.35 cost of sand per block

cement-                               P8800.00/3200  =               P2.75 cost of cement per block

water -                                 P0.05                =                P0.05 of water per block

labor -                                  P4800.00/3200  =               P1.50 labor cost per block

hauling incentive                 P150.00/500      =               P0.30 incentive per block

COST PER PC OF CHB                               =               P6.95

Now that we have collected all our data  we can proceed in pricing our hollow block as per prevailing market price. To do this you as the owner of the HOLLOW BLOCKS MAKING BUSINESS, must do your due diligence in knowing the price from every hardware near you and do the necessary mark up.

Let’s take for example the prevailing price in our place here in San Carlos Pangasinan. A piece of size 4 block with delivery is P10.00 without delivery you can charge P9.00. So let’s check the profitability.

A sale of 3200 pieces at P9.00 (let’s take a conservative profitability taking for consideration that we don’t have our own transport for delivery )will give you a gross sale of P28,800.00, In this case subtracting your initial capitalization P24,810.00 you will get a profit of P3,990.00 , then for the next cycle of batch cycle of 16 cu.m you will add P2750.00 to the profit because this should only be deducted once.

ofcourse it’s a good advantage to have our transport for delivery but let’s not make it an issue to hinder us from putting up our own HOLLOW BLOCK MAKING BUSINESS.

A 16 cu.m of sand can be consumed by two workers in 5 days, let’s conservatively say that we can make 4 cycle batch of 16 cu.m per month then we can have a total profitability of [P3990.00 + 3x(P3990.00 +2750)]

We have a first month profit of P24,210.00

I Have applied the rollover of capitalization to arrive at this computation.

I hope you learn something in this topic and that I am looking forward that you can give some interest in doing this business. see you again on my next blog. Thank you!

WHO WILL BE MY CUSTOMERS FOR THE HOLLOW BLOCKS THAT I MADE

WHO WILL BE MY CUSTOMERS ? Before we dive in to the to another topic in hollow blocks making business, I would like to encourage you guys ...
